U.S. Small-business owners trying to sell out are becoming more optimistic that they'll get a decent price on the sale, according to BizBuySell.com.

In fact, the number of small-business transactions nationally is on pace to hit its highest level since the online business marketplace began tracking business sales in 2007.

Locally, Metro Denver small businesses analyzed by BizBuySell.com listed for a median asking price of $250,000 and sold for a median price of $275,000 in the third quarter.

The Denver economic data is based on 362 Denver-area businesses listed at BizBuySell.com in the quarter. Those businesses had median annual revenue of $450,000, up from $415,000 at this time last year.

In the quarter, the listed businesses had median cash flow, or the money that comes out of the business in a year, of $106,212, up from $98,152 in the third quarter of 2013, according to San Francisco-based BizBuySell.com

The company also analyzed 33 transactions that closed in metro Denver in the quarter, and on average, business sellers here got 91 percent of their asking price.

The local businesses sold in the third quarter had median revenue of $657,512, up from $640,196 a year earlier.

Business buyers paid, on average, 0.48 times revenue and 2.06 times cash flow in the third quarter.

The lists of Denver-area closed transactions are the ones self-reported to BizBuySell.com by representing brokers.

Nationally, BizBuySell.com reported that third-quarter small-business transactions were up 18 percent from a year ago, reaching their highest third-quarter level since BizBuySell began tracking data in 2007.
