The U.S. Federal Reserve System is out with its latest "Beige Book" economic survey for Colorado and nearby states, charting winners and losers in the regional economy over the last several weeks.
Overall, the survey of business leaders says the multistage region's economy "increased modestly in June, and contacts in most industries anticipated stronger growth in the months ahead."
Among the winners: Retail and wholesale sales, restaurants, tourism, professional, tech, real estate. Among the losers: Manufacturing, energy and agriculture.
The Fed's latest survey, issued today, spans the six-week period that ended July 3.
The regional Beige Book covers the Fed's Kansas City-based 10th District, which includes Colorado and some or all of six neighboring states. It's based on interviews with a sample of business executives representing key industries in each district, as well as economists and market experts. The Fed refers in the report to those surveyed as "contacts."
The Fed's 10th District includes Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Wyoming, as well as western Missouri and northern New Mexico.
The reports are anecdotal and do not contain statistics, but they are widely followed and help the Fed to set national economic policy. It is no longer a physical book, but rather a report published digitally.
